I was so sad that COVID got in the way of this year's preschool. I was excited for Lilah to play with other kids and go back to school. Sometimes she will just randomly tell me she wants to go to school so I'm sad that she won't get to have that experience this year.
I used to be hopeful that kids would be able to go back to school. Atleast the kids with special needs, but it's definitely not looking like she will be going to school this year.
For the first week of school we had to navigate how to do school virtually. It was hard to engage Lilah. David running around us wanting my attention made it extra challenging.
There are definitely lots of pros to doing school from home. One big one is that David is learning with Lilah.
It's so cute to have him sit on the table and work on his own little activities. Sometimes Lilah wants to include him and they both watch videos together.
Another pro is being able to see Lilah's progress. When she did activities at school, it was hard to see what she was doing and to see if she was progressing. Having her at home I know exactly what we need to work on and what we need to spend more time on.

David watching the preschool videos and learning the songs with Lilah.
We even get to take "recess" in between online sessions. Sometimes the kids play outside.
Lilah built a fort in my room. Can you tell she was proud of her work?
Lilah has hit the stage where she changes about 3 times a day.
David learned to go up and down the stairs all by himself.
It is so hard to engage Lilah but I love knowing what she is learning.
I am learning what songs she is learning and what topics they are learning for the week.
Lilah teaching David how to do the gestures to the song.
We have figured out a little routine where I put David down for a nap right before Lilah's second virtual meet so I can focus on her doing the activities and crafts with the teacher's aid. We also get to play in between meets and spend one on one time.
I bought Lilah these magnatiles and she has been loving them. I love watching her do open ended play and use her imagination.
I love how David learns right along with Lilah. He is definitely a little destroyer and will make everything messy but it's okay because we still love him.
Lilah's Sunbeams teacher brought her some treats and dropped them off at the door. It was so sweet!
We also started renovating our downstairs bathroom. I'm excited to see it transform.
This is what happens when mommy is tired and the kids are unattended. Lilah wastes no time. And David is happy to follow along.
We have been playing outside with the water almost every day. There has been a heat wave these past weeks and it has been so hot and humid. They love playing with the hose.
Virtual preschool has been challenging but I appreciate knowing that Lilah is safe. I don't have to worry about any school shootings or anyone taking advantage of my non-talker. I love that I know what she is learning and can help her improve in areas where she needs. I love that David is learning with us. Although I wish I could have some alone time to get things done around the house and that Lilah could have little friends to play with, I appreciate being her teacher mom. I hope we can make the most out of this extra time that we are home together.
